Abstract:
Quantum theory of relativistic string with fixed ends is constructed in the timelike
gauge. Gauge conditions are introduced in the reparametrization-invariant action
of the string. The theory has no tachyon states or constraints on the dimension of the
space-time. The constraints and gauge conditions are fulfilled in quantum theory only
for the matrix elements between physical state vectors. The string generates the static
interquark potential V(R)=√γ2R2+ε0 where ε0 is a free parameter determined in the experiment.
