Unusual condensation of acetone giving η3-allyl ligand in the [Pd(η3-C6H9O)(μ-Cl)]2 complex

A one-step reaction was discovered giving the h³-allyl complex [Pd(h³-C₆H₉O)(μ-Cl)]₂. The formation of the substituted h³-allyl ligand in the complex occurs as a result of the condensation of acetone at room temperature in a solution containing [Pd(PhCN)₂Cl₂] and organic acids. The structure of the resulting Pdⁱⁱ complex was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
