Ceramic membranes with mixed conductivity and their application

V. L. Kozhevnikov, I. A. Leonidov, M. V. Patrakeev

Institute of Solid State Chemistry, Urals Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ekaterinburg
Abstract: The catalytic reactors with ceramic membranes that are able to maintain oxygen transfer from air and other gas mixtures make it possible to integrate oxygen separation and oxidation reactions. This approach is promising for development of energy efficient, environmentally friendly and compact facilities for processing natural gas and similar crudes such as associated petroleum gas and biogas. In this paper the general issues are expounded in relation with primary processing of light alkanes in reactors with oxygen semipermeable membranes and general demands to materials are discussed. Particular attention is given to partial oxidation of methane to syngas.
