On a Multilinear Functional Equation

Abstract:
The following functional equation is solved: f ( x 1 + z ) ⋯ f ( x 2 + z ) f ( x 1 + ⋯ + x s − 1 − z ) = ϕ 1 ( x ) ψ 1 ( z ) + ⋯ + ϕ m ( x ) ψ m ( z ) , where x = ( x 1 , … , x s − 1 ) , for the unknowns f , ψ j : C → C and ϕ j : C s − 1 → C for s ⩾ 3 and m ⩽ 4 s − 5 .
