Numerical study of the flow near the descent vehicle with parachute system canopies in its near wake at supersonic motion

Abstract:
On the basis of conservative numerical methods, modeling of the spatial nonstationary vortex structure of the flow arising at supersonic motion of the descent in the atmosphere vehicle and the parachute system canopies located in its vortex wake was carried out. The
variants of the parachute system consisting of one to seven canopies are considered. Patterns of the flow occurring in the area between the vehicle and the canopies, as well as in the near wake behind the parachute system are presented. Calculations were performed for different distances between the descent vehicle and the canopies. Influence of the distance between the apparatus and the canopies on the characteristics of the force effect of the flow on the apparatus and the parachute system is shown. The simulation was carried
out on the basis of parallel algorithms implemented on modern supercomputer systems.
