Abstract: Reactions of 2-(het)aryl substituted 1H-imidazo[4,5-f]-[1,10]phenanthrolines with Cd2+, Zn2+, Co2+ and Fe2+ perchlorates afford complexes of 2: 1 and 3: 1 ligand/metal ratios. Complexes of ligands with Cd2+ and Zn2+ are luminescent, while Co2+ and Fe2+ complexes are highly stable (K>1021), do not luminesce and demonstrate electron transfer from metal to ligand.
Keywords: imidazophenanthrolines, cadmium complexes, zinc complexes, iron complexes, cobalt complexes, optical properties, luminescence, electron transfer.
